Obituary of Brad Lee Ovens

Brad Lee Ovens, age 31, of Penn Yan, NY passed away on Friday, November 19th, 2021 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital after a very brief battle with COVID-19. Brad was born in Geneva, NY on January 11th, 1990, the son of the late Stewart Brian Ovens (Marge Ovens) and Lenora Ann (Kerrick) Braman (Brad Braman). Recently, Brad obtained his CDL license and worked full-time as an over the road truck driver for Sheppard Grain in Phelps, NY. Driving truck allowed Brad to travel the Eastern Seaboard, parts of the Midwest and Canada. Brad will be remembered by many for his Facebook Live videos that featured his travels and "tales from the road." A race fan for life, Brad enjoyed many victories in the motorsports world winning Features and a Championship in go-karts; many wins in the Bandit division at Outlaw Speedway driving for the Hill family & was a decorated member of the motorsports media community. Brad was a gifted mind in graphic design and motorsports video while working for entities such as NASCAR at The Glen, the World of Outlaws, DIRT Motorsports, Outlaw Speedway, Weedsport Speedway, Land of Legends Raceway, Dirt Track Digest TV, iRacing eSports races & AMA Motocross. In a short time, Brad's work has been featured on ESPN, MavTV, SPEED Channel and on TSN in Canada. The talent Brad exuded in the motorsports world was recently featured as he served as the Graphics Designer and Assistant Producer for Land of Legends TV at Land of Legends Raceway. Brad was a certified FAA Drone Operator and put those skills to work for many clients, race events and special projects for family and friends. He also loved his two cats at home, Al and Flick. Brad was an active member of the Penn Yan Fire Department and a member of the Penn Yan Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps where he served several stints as a driver and EMT. He was an award-winning member of the Eastern Motorsports Press Association where he was honored for his many talents in videography against the very best on the East Coast. Brad also had an affinity for Subaru car builds with his "Team Subi" friends. Brad Ovens was predeceased by his paternal grandmother Georgia Ovens in 2011, paternal Aunt Cindy Ovens in 2020 and his father Stewart Ovens on November 3rd of this year. Brad is survived by his Mother and Stepfather Lee Ann (Brad) Braman of Penn Yan; Stepmother Marge Ovens of Newark; Brother Steven (Keegan) Ovens and new nephew Kole of Horseheads, NY; Stepsisters Kaleigh (Sam) Zulauf, Melissa (Tommy) Castro, Adrienne Tokarz; Stepsister Heather Viele (Peter Cron, Angelina & Robert Viele); Grandparents Harold and Mary Jane Kerrick; Aunts and Uncles Stanley Ovens, Theresa (Rick) Multer, Albie Kerrick (Cheryl Fenton), Faye Kerrick, Bruce (Marianne) Kerrick, Doug (Darlene) Braman, Neal (Amy) Braman, Kyle Braman and Ralph Padilla. Cousins Brian Ovens, Don (Kathleen) Ovens, Kim (John) Hassett, Kylene (Matt) Applebee, Danielle (Dakota) Tempest, Paul Kerrick (Desiree Peterson), Melissa Kerrick, Ryan (Courtney) Kerrick, Kevin Kerrick, Justin Braman, Jason (Jill) Braman, Amanda Braman, Sean (Morgan) Braman, Ashtin (Russell) Runions; numerous cousins and many friends.
