Obituary of Stephen A. D'Amico

Stephen Anthony D'Amico, 61, of Penn Yan, NY passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2022. He was born on June 18, 1961 a son of Daniel and Bruna (Gallo) D'Amico. Stephen graduated from Waterloo High School in 1979 and went to Boys State. He went on to graduate from Alfred State. Stephen later received an Engineering Science Degree from MCC. Stephen met his wife Marla Mastrogiovanni and started dating in 1987. They married October 1, 2005. Stephen was a pilot, sharing a plane with his father for many many years. He worked for his dad in the family business D'Amico Plumbing and Heating his entire life, becoming co-owner with his brother Dave several years ago. He was a member of Lion's Club in both Waterloo and Geneva, a member of St Michael's Church Penn Yan, and a member of GBUA as an umpire for several years. He coached Jr. League football, first in Geneva and retired last year in Penn Yan after 32 years. Stephen mentored and was respected by hundreds of kids that still seek him out when they see him to thank him for his compassion, knowledge and guidance through coaching. He supported and encouraged his kids through sports, coaching their football, baseball and basketball teams from 2008 until 2021. Stephen built his and Marla's dream home on Keuka Lake while raising three kids and realized his dream of owning a Harley Davidson. He adored his wife, and his kids were his pride and joy. He treated his in-laws like his own family. His favorite things were taking his Harley for rides with his wife, boat rides with family and friends, and the hundreds of camping trips and vacations with his wife and kids for the past 13 years. He loved the NY Giants, the Yankees, and spending time with family and friends. But his most favorite thing was coaching and guiding his own kids, as well as many others. He was the hardest worker we have ever known, but he always put others first no matter what. Stephen is survived by his heartbroken wife of 17 years, Marla (Mastrogiovanni); his children, Giovanni, Santina and Vincenzo; brothers, Dave (Connie) and Dan D'Amico, Michael, John, and Chris Mastrogiovanni; sisters, Lauren and Lisa Mastrogiovanni; mother-in-law, Jane Mastrogiovanni; nephews, Mike (Jess), Marc (Ashley), Nick (Melissa), Patrick (Kari), Chad and Jonathan D'Amico, Robert, Matthew and Nicolo Mastrogiovanni; nieces, ToniAnn D'Amico and Nikki Acquilano; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Dan and Bruna D'Amico, father-in-law Sam Mastrogiovanni, and sister-in-law Robin (Acquilano) D'Amico. Marla and her entire family want to thank the staff at the Homestead. We could not have asked for better care and compassion from you all. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, October 14, 2022 from 4-8 pm at Townsend-Wood & Zinger Funeral Home, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. Michael’s Church, 312 Liberty St., Penn Yan.
