Obituary of Barbara J. Edwards

Barbara Jean Edwards, age 94, of Naples, New York passed away on Sunday, January 15 th , 2023 surrounded by loving family at the Keuka Comfort Care Home in Penn Yan, New York. Barbara was born on August 25, 1928 in Rochester, New York. She graduated from Naples Central School where she was involved in many activities. These included chorus, band, the homemaking club, and was the intramural basketball captain as well as volleyball captain. Barbara worked for Mobil Chemical in Canandaigua, New York for 20 years before retiring, where she was a Quality Control Inspector. Barbara enjoyed reading, gardening, canning, sewing, traveling, family get-togethers, watching the Buffalo Bills and spending time with her kitties. She had a passion for architecture, particularly older homes. In 1967 Barbara married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Edwards. Together, they had eleven children. They moved to Branchport, New York where they built their home and life together. When their youngest was a teenager, Bob and Barbara decided to welcome foster children into their lives. They helped a total of 8 children ranging from infants to young teens. This was something that Bob and Barbara were very proud of. Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Bob Edwards, mother, Mildred Peyton Lafler Kling, step-father, Lewis Kling, father, Daniel Lafler, sister, Madge Edwards, sister, Mary Fender, Son, Stephen Shay, brother-in-law, Otto Edwards and her beloved cats, Pug Nose, Panda and Kahlua. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Finnegan; daughter Sararose (Barry) Beechner; son Stan (Kathy Wood) Shay; son Stacey Shay; daughter-in-law, Vicky Shay; son-in-law Alan Heffron; special friend Dawn (Dawnie) Hall; grandchildren Susan, Raymond, Christina, Aleen, Anisa, Daniel, Christopher, Brittany, Shane, Kurt, nieces and nephews, many great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the Prattsburgh Rural Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Keuka Comfort Care Home, P.O. Box 107 Penn Yan, New York 14527.
