Obituary of Shirley (Cromwell) (Barnum) Read

Shirley was born May, 24, 1925 and went to meet our Lord April 1, 2023 after a long and full life. Survived by husband Gerald Read, children Calvin(Theresa) Barnum, Cindi(Jerry) Noeth and Darlene Mahnke(John Orbaker), Donna(Joel)Fiske, Darryl(Donna) Read and Doug Read, sisters- in-law, Betty Cromwell, Jean Barnum(Jack), Judy Barnum(Jack), Pat Monroe, and Avis Knapp, brother-in-law Paul Read(Chris), numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Ivan and Mildred Brundage Cromwell, her first husband Anthony Barnum, siblings John(Grace)Cromwell, Theodore(Ethel)Cromwell, Mike Cromwell, Grace Lord and David Cromwell, brothers-in-law: Carl Barnum, Morgan Knapp, and Dave(Pat) Read, sisters-in-law Geraldine(Joe) Farrell, Phyllis(Bob) Ullrich, Mae Kaufman, Lorraine Barnum, Dorothy Leonard and Margie Nigro. Shirley was a teacher at Prattsburgh Central School for 37 years and traveled extensively after her retirement. From a young age she knew she wanted to be a teacher and always looked to enlighten and stimulate the minds of young children. Mass and burial will be at the family’s convenience. In lieu of flowers donations could be made to the Prattsburgh Central School Teacher’s Association Scholarship or the charity of ones choice.
