Obituary of Mary Pat Pennell

Mary Patrick Pennell II, passed away October 24 ,2023.

Predeceased by her parents, John Dwight and Mary Patrick Pennell, and her brother Dwight.  Survived by sister-in-law Janey Ford, her nephew Craig Pennell, and her good friend Mary Michalec.

Mary Pat was a true southern girl who loved cooking, cats, cards, a good book, and a good party.

MP, as she was called, graduated from the University of Tennessee. She spent her early years in South Carolina but soon came North to work at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, reorganizing their Med Tech Lab.

She worked at Monroe Community College, first as a professor and later as Dean of the Health Science Department. Her energy and intelligence are displayed in the many awards she received throughout the years that include Professor of the Year in 1974, National Medical Technologist of the Year in 1976, and Innovator of the Year in 1986.

In retirement she started Sugar Shack Blueberry Farm and helped to establish Cobblestone Springs Retreat Center, where she was an active and essential volunteer for many years. She was a long-time member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church.

Memorial service will be held on November 4 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Penn Yan (179 Main Street) at 11:00 a.m. with a reception follow.
