Obituary of Donald Rex Shaw

Donald Rex Shaw, age 79, of PennYan, NY passed away Sunday, February 11th, 2024 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital.

Don was born in Cortland, NY on October 12th, 1944, the son of the late, Donald Carlton and Virginia Marie (Stoddard) Shaw. Don graduated from Moravia Central School, Auburn Community College and served in the US Air Force from 1965 to 1969. He worked at Shuron Optical in Geneva where he met the love of his life Linda. Don retired as the Undergrad Lab Supervisor for the Dept. of Electrical Engineering at Syracuse University. Don was an Amateur (Ham) Radio Operator and participated in the Ham Radio Club at both Auburn Community and Syracuse University, he was a member of Emergency Preparedness in Cayuga, nondaga and Yates Counties. Don has also worked for the Yates County Farmers Market with his loving wife Linda and daughter Laura.

Don is survived by his loving wife, Linda B. Shaw; daughter, Laura Shaw; sister, Melody Conklin; two nieces and one nephew, as well as great nieces and nephews. Don was predeceased by his parents, an infant sister; and his in-laws, Kenneth D. and Elsie Marie Bailey.

Friends and family may call from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Friday, February 16th , 2023 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 135 Hamilton St., Penn Yan, NY 14527. His funeral will follow at the church at 1:00pm. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, Penn Yan. Memorial contributions may be made in Don's Name to the Humane Society of Yates County, the Alzhiemer's Association, or to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
