Obituary of Velma J. Silliman
Velma Joan Jayne Silliman, born August 10, 1945, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2024, after a brief illness, surrounded by loved ones at the Keuka Comfort Care Home. She was born in Penn Yan, NY, to George and Esther Jayne.
Velma graduated from Dundee Central School in 1963 and married the love of her life, Monte Silliman, in 1964. She devoted much of her life to being a loving mother and homemaker. When her children grew older, she worked for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 2005.
Velma led an active and fulfilling life. She was the North Star of her family, providing guidance, support, and encouragement. She cherished time spent with her family, attending every grandchild's sporting event, concert, and graduation. Velma had an uncanny ability to listen and offer the right support to her friends and family. She loved creating traditions and celebrating life's moments.
Velma is survived by her children, Sharon Paulchel, Jon Silliman, Liz (Jerry) Marsh, and Jimmy (Christi) Silliman; grandchildren, Vanessa Paulchel, Cassie (Matt) Hufnagel, Morgan Potts, Daniel Paulchel, Jacob (Denise) Potts, Mitchell Potts, Peyton Silliman, Riley Potts, Brigham Hansen, Justice Marsh, Nancy Capps, and Paxton Marsh; and great-grandchildren, Vincent LeGrett, Greyson Potts, Madison Hufnagel, and Kaladin Carlson. She is also survived by her sister, Carolyn Meritt, brother in law Bill (Diane) Silliman as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Velma was predeceased by her loving husband, Monte Silliman, and her beautiful daughter, Linda Potts.
Velma deeply touched the lives of many, from family board game nights to vacationing with friends and family in Florida during the winter. She will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
Friends and family may call from 12:00-1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at St. Michael's Church, 312 Liberty St., Penn Yan, NY. A memorial Mass will follow at the church at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Penn Yan, NY.
