Obituary of Hilda H. Scofield

Hilda H. Scofield, 94, of Penn Yan, NY died peacefully surrounded by family and devoted caregivers at the Wayne County Nursing Home on Monday, July 15th, 2024. Hilda was born December 3, 1929 in West Virginia to parents Harry and Carrie Pearl Harden. She settled in Penn Yan with her husband of 49 years, George Scofield, where they raised their family. She worked for many years at the Penn Yan Municipal Board as an account clerk. Throughout her adult life, she was active in the Penn Yan United Methodist Church. She was an avid reader, cat lover, and enjoyed meeting friends for coffee. Hilda loved spending time with her family and friends, and she was well known for her kindness as well as her wit and sarcastic sense of humor. Hilda is survived by her daughter Laurie (Howard) Navratil of Wolcott, NY; son Jeffrey (June) Scofield of Rochester, NY; granddaughter Nicole (Josh) Navratil of Sterling, NY; grandson Paul (Christina) Navratil of Rochester, NY; great-grandchildren Grady, Marin, and Archer who were the lights of her life; three nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and dear friends Florence (Mimi) Sweeny, and James and Faye Castner who were incredibly important to her. She was predeceased by her husband George Scofield in 2004; sister Anna Wise in 2012; and three nephews. Friends are invited to call from 3-4 pm, Sunday July 21st, at the Townsend-Wood & Zinger Funeral Home, 201 E. Elm Street, Penn Yan, NY 14527. A service will immediately follow. Memorials may be made in Hilda's honor to the Penn Yan United Methodist Church, 166 Main St, Penn Yan, NY 14527, or the Wayne County Nursing Home Foundation, 1529 Nye Road, Lyons, NY 14489.
