Obituary of Harold F. Kerrick
Harold Francis Kerrick, age 81, of Penn Yan, NY passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 surrounded by family at Penn Yan Manor Nursing Home.
Harold was born in Geneva, NY on January 15, 1943, the son of the late Dee F. and Helen C. Kerrick.
Harold retired from the Carpenters Local Union 85/276 of Rochester, NY on February 1, 2005 after a lifelong career. Following retirement from the Carpenters Union, he served as General Manager of Stern Properties in Rochester, NY for an additional 15 years.
He was a former President of the Penn Yan Fire Department Ellsworth Hose Company. Harold was also a board member of the Yates County Junior Football League and was a board member for the Yates County Fair Board working alongside their close friends at the fair.
Harold was well-known as a jack of all trades working side jobs on weekends to support his family. He often pointed out to his family all of the buildings and roofs he had worked on in both Penn Yan and the city of Rochester. Harold was a staple at the Yates County Fair, working as the head flagging official for all demo derbies and enduros. His signature “4 laps to go” signal is a fond memory among family and friends.
Harold was an avid Dale Earnhardt fan and spent decades working on racecars out of the many Kerrick race shops. He enjoyed John Wayne western films, the Sunday paper, his beloved Dallas Cowboys and hosting many WWE pay-per-view watch parties at his home on Kerrick Lane off Hopeton Road. Harold could always be found at his grandkids sporting events from rodeos to football, wrestling, lacrosse and at local dirt races. He also enjoyed helping with building improvements and working the Mini Golf building at Mac’s Dairy Bar.
Harold Kerrick was predeceased by his parents Dee F. and Helen C. Kerrick Sr., sister Beverly (Kerrick) Golden, sister Margaret Ellen Kerrick, brother Roger Kerrick, brother Clair Kerrick Sr., son in-law Brad Braman and grandson Brad Lee Ovens.
Harold is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Mary Jane Kerrick of Penn Yan; brother Dee F. (Betty) Kerrick Jr., sister in-law Jo Ann Kerrick, sister in-law Mary Dorene Kerrick; daughter Lenora Ann (Kerrick) Braman, son Adelbert Kerrick, daughter Theresa (Rick) Multer, son Bruce (Marianne) Kerrick, guardian son Maynard (Patricia) Kerrick Jr.; granddaughter Danielle (Dakota) Tempest, grandson Steven (Keegan) Ovens, granddaughter Melissa Kerrick (Ben Holt), grandson Paul Kerrick (Desiree Petersen), granddaughter Kylene (Matt) Applebee, grandson Ryan (Courtney) Kerrick, grandson Kevin Kerrick, Matthew (Breonna) Kerrick and Cassandra Kerrick; great grandchildren Trinity, Montana, Rhiannon, Annabelle, Emma, Emmet, Ryder, Elliott, Penelope, Kole, Ayden, Andi; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
A graveside service is planned for Thursday August 29, 2024 at 11:00AM at the Lakeview Cemetery in Penn Yan, NY officiated by Elaine Gleason. The service will be immediately followed by a luncheon at the Penn Yan American Legion Post 355 at 2001 Himrod Road in Penn Yan.
