Obituary of Jean M. Carroll

Jean Zimdahl Carroll, age 88, of Bluff Point, passed away on Tuesday, September 17th, 2024 in the comfort of her home.

Jean was born in Canandaigua on July 29, 1936. She was the daughter of William & Mary Dawson   Zimdahl.  Jean graduated from Geneva High School in 1953 and came to Penn Yan to work for the N.Y. Telephone Co. in 1954. Jean & her husband Don Carroll owned Appleton Disposal for 11 years.  Jean was then employed by The ARC of Yates as a bookkeeper until her retirement in 2001. In recent years she was a Senior Companion for her very special friends at the Catholic Charities residences.

Jean was a member of the Women Of The Moose, a longtime supporter & member of The Arc of  Yates , and a communicant at St. Michael's Church in Penn Yan.  She liked spending time with her children, grandchildren and her many friends. She also liked to bake and play euchre.

Jean is survived by her children, Nancy Downs, John (Victoria Pierle) Carroll and son-in-law David Downs, all of Penn Yan and son Jeff (Jenny) Carroll of Kentucky; grandchildren, Brittany (Nicholas) Brinkman, Kirsten (Blake) Ramsey, Maya and Chase Carroll of KY, and Nicholas Carroll and Alexis Carroll of Penn Yan; two great-grandchildren; brother in law and sister in law, Don and Phyllis Christensen and Barry and Pat Carroll, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many very special friends.   In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by her husband Don Carroll in 1991; daughter, Barb on February 27th, 2024; brothers,  Pvt. Donald Zimdahl who was  killed in Korea in 1953 and Frank “Bud” Zimdahl in 2014; and sister in law, Daisy Zimdahl.     

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 12th, 2024 at 11:00 am at Lakeview Cemetery in Penn Yan.  A celebration of her life will be held at the Penn Yan Moose Club, 301 E. Elm St., Penn Yan, NY 14527 beginning at 1:00pm.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Keuka Comfort Care Home, PO Box 107, Penn Yan, NY 14527 or the Humane Society of Yates County, PO Box 12, Penn Yan, NY 14527.  Memories of Jean may be shared with her family and friends at townsendwoodzinger.com.
