Obituary of Thelma L. Jensen

Thelma Lee Jensen passed away on Friday, May 6th, 2022, at Penn Yan Manor Nursing Home. She was born in Penn Yan, NY on January 23, 1928, the daughter of the late Vernon and Pearl Hayes Lee. She attended Benton #12 Country School and graduated from Penn Yan Academy in 1944. She then attended McKechnie-Lunger School of Commerce in Rochester for training as a medical secretary. She was employed by William Roberts MD in Penn Yan, Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital lab, Clifton Springs Radiology, and then retired from Yates County Department of Social Services in 1983. Thelma loved Christmas and she and her husband, Michael, enjoyed hosting their many Christmas parties for family and friends. They set up their Christmas village every year for all to enjoy. She also loved traveling, dancing, and their Welsh Corgis. She volunteered at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, CSEA, and the Moose Club. She is survived by her husband, Michael, who she married on March 11, 1972 in Penn Yan, NY. She is also survived by daughters, Beverly (James) Peterson and Linda (Charles) Christensen, grandsons Chad Christensen and David (Nella Hurlburt) Peterson. Surviving also are Michael's siblings: Daniel (Myra) Jensen, Cornelius Jensen Sr., Kathleen (Fred) Best, Sharon Allen, Chris Christensen, and Jens (Sharon) Jensen. She was predeceased by Henry E. Jensen Jr. and his wife, Janice, Patricia Alexander, Margaret Jensen, and Michael's parents, Henry Sr. and Mary Jensen. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service for immediate family will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to Keuka Comfort Care Home, PO Box 107, Penn Yan, NY 14527 or the Humane Society of Yates County, PO Box 12, Penn Yan, NY 14527.
