Obituary of Ruth M. Deery

Ruth M. Deery, age 89, of Prattsburgh, NY passed away on Monday, September 26th, 2022 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. Ruth was born July 21st, 1933 to the late Winfield and Lorenia (Moore) Powers and was raised on the Powers farm in Farmington, NY with her two brothers George and Howard. She fulfilled her career working for Mobil Chemical for 38 years. Ruth married Harry Deery Jr. and together they retired to the Prattsburgh, NY area and enjoyed country life. They were avid dancers and had many friends in that circle and Ruth was an active quilter where she met weekly for years with her special friends to sew. She was active in the First Presbyterian Church of Prattsburgh and helped make many quilts used for fund raising. She enjoyed her circle of friends, going out to lunch, getting her hair done and enjoying life. Her niece Sally Shultz (Gregg), three great nephews Randall, Gregory and Richard, great great niece and nephew Emily and Lyric all of Manchester, NY, as well as cousins Linda Holbrook (John), Jim Powers, Jack Powers and Pat Powers and Harry's children and grandchildren all survive her. She will be missed by all her friends and neighbors, especially by her special friend Peggy Tears who was the sister she never had. In addition to her parents, Ruth was predeceased by her brothers George and Howard Powers and her first husband Ken Orbaker. There will be no calling hours, at Ruth's request there will be a celebration of her life at the First Presbyterian Church of Prattsburgh on Monday, October 10th, 2022 at 11am.
