Susan T. Gute

Condolences
I can still see "Miss Gute" outside teaching children soccer and other sports at Penn Yan Elementary. She had so much energy and a love for athletics/physical fitness. I never considered myself a "natural athlete" but all these years later, my enthusiasm for fitness and sports continues. We shared a passion for snow skiing and I would often see her out on the slopes. My late mother Audrey Wolcott was also a long-time member at Lakeside Country Club and always spoke fondly of Sue Gute. She has left a lasting legacy at Lakeside CC and the Penn Yan community,
RIP Sue, dear friend since 9th grade when we’d walk to and from school, study for tests together, canoe on Lake Jeff—making up adventures as we paddled around the islands at the north end. I’ll miss phone chats at happy hour—about the pussy cat, boating on the lake, golfing or skiing, trips to N. St. Pete. OO
We were so lucky to have Aunt Sue in our lives. Her amazing positivity, sense of humor, bright smile, and adventurous spirit always inspired our family. She brought so much fun and joy to every gathering. Her friendly personality appealed to people of all ages and she was a friend to everyone. We will miss her every day.
One of my favorite people ever! As kids it was a special event when Sue came to visit her parents next door to us. As an adult I loved when she spent Thanksgiving or a weekend with us. Her handmade Christmas ornaments are on my tree every year. Many great memories ❤️
What an inspiration to young girls! I drew a desire for fitness and competitiveness in sports from Miss Gute in my preteen years. She was always an encourager! I would occasionally see her on my return visits to PY after graduating HS and moving away. Miss Gute would always stop to chat and share her warm smile! My condolences to her family and friends -- may God's peace fill your hearts.
unable to believe she is no longer with us. So full of life yet to live. I will always remember our adventures together especially driving the Alaska Highway to visit her brother and family. A big loss for all of us who knew her. RIP
Can just imagine the incredible reunion Aunt Sue had with her parents and brother. Later it was skiing with her brother, golf with her dad, and hanging out with her mom drinking coffee. Miss you Aunt Sue.
Ms Gute was an incredible teacher who always believed in her students. I was never athletically gifted and yet she spent extra time helping me to improve the “shuttle run” so I could finally achieve the Presidential Fitness Award (the only time I was able to win it). Thanks for everything Ms Gute. Your memory and legacy live on in thousands of students!
So sorry to hear of the passing of Miss Gute. She was my elementary gym teacher and later my varsity soccer coach. Miss Gute always made you feel so special as an individual. The kindness and coaching she gave to all her athletes always made you want to be the best you could be. She connected to you and made you feel you were capable of anything. The memories I have of her will always bring a smile to face and a warmth in my heart ❤️ RIP beautiful lady.
A once in a century class act! The world was a better place with Sue in it! She will be missed but never forgotten!
I’m so very sorry to hear of Miss Gute’s passing. For whatever reason, she seemed to be one of those people I thought would live forever. She was a great teacher, cheer coach, mentor and person. I can see her in my mind’s eye, so energetic, short blond hair, endless energy and optimism. Her presence was impactful, and I was lucky to have landed in her life orbit, if even for a few short years. She has left her mark in a very positive way, and will never be forgotten. Rest in eternal peace, my condolences to all who knew and loved her.
So sorry to hear about Miss Gute's passing. She was a favorite teacher in elementary school, and I didn't have much contact with her beyond 6th grade in 1983. I saw her at the library in PY in 2020 or so, and she recognized me right off. I had no idea she was a champion of women in sports in the early years, and looking back, I see it all makes sense. She was so enthusiastic I couldn't help but enjoy phys ed. Great memories of playing soccer on the upper elementary field in the fall in those goofy gym uniforms, hearing her cheering us on form the sidelines. What a gal, she'll be missed!
Ms. Gute was truly a beautiful person, teacher, and soccer coach. She always had a wonderful spirit, full of joy and kindness. I occasionally met her passing by my home after high school and college while walking, honking her horn and waving away, and of course smiling. I will always have fond memories of her. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.
Have known Sue for probably 55 years… big influence during my school years and a friend since. I will miss seeing her/ talking with her, and that terrific smile! My condolences to her family. She will be missed very much!
