Condolences
I met and worked with Kathy and Karl at the AATA in Ann Arbor, Michigan. We recently reconnected on Facebook. My memory of Kathy is of her incredible intelligence, humor and determination when needed. She must have been an amazing force in Penn Yan. I know she and Karl are missed. My thoughts are with the family and friends. Joyce Wearstler
Our world is reduced without Kathy in it. We will all miss her bright energy. By mirroring her genuine warmth and contribution Kathy's legacy can live on within us.
In the two decades our paths crossed in the Penn Yan schools, I was inspired by Kathy's fierce advocacy for children. Her questions, insights, and encouragement helped me grow to trust my voice and do even more for the youth of Penn Yan. We shared emails, coffee, meetings, school events, and many smiles and laughs. She was part of my foundation as a Penn Yan teacher and for that I am eternally grateful. Her spirit and her commitment changed thousands of young lives in immeasurable ways. I will miss her dearly.
I met Kathy in 1981 at the Yates ARC. We needed to get to know each other in our no nonsense way with determining who would win that days controversial topic. We became friends and even took a cruise together. In the last few years we became very close as Kathy struggled with health issues and preparing for the time she would not be as independent as she wanted to be. I loved her dry and intelligent sense of humor, her view of Seneca Lake, her elderberry jam and participatory nature in community events. I miss her but we had the opportunity to make many great memories.
