James Arthur Case age 86, of Penn Yan, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 20th,2020 at Penn Yan Manor Nursing Home. Jim was born in Canton, PA on May 11th,1933. He was raised on the family farm where he learned the meaning of hard work. He was a graduate of Canton High School and at 18 years old was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He served overseas and was an artillery mechanic in the U. S. Army's 1st Cavalry Division. Upon returning to the U.S. post-war, Jim worked at GLF (later known as Agway) where he met his wife Winifred Baldwin. Together they raised six children and were married fifty years. Jim worked and spent his entire career devoted to Agway Cooperative from which he retired with over 40 years of service. He always held farming in the highest regard and went above and beyond for the farmer whether it be local or in many other areas all over New York State. His family would tease him “is there any farmer out there that you don't know”? His response with a chuckle was “no, not many”! Jim was first and foremost a family man who was devoted to his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was a kind and generous man who would go out of his way to help others. He had a multitude of talents as a gardener, carpenter, plumber, mechanic, and woodworker. There was not much he couldn't do, couldn't fix, couldn't make or answer to. He never passed up the chance to take to the dance floor where he and Win would jitterbug, foxtrot, tango or waltz. Jim is survived by his children Randy, Nancy (Glenn) Gallipeau, Jody, Jerri (Peter) Jensen and Janell (Katie), eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law Kim Case, sister-in-law Annamay Baldwin, and several nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his parents, his wife Winifred Case, his son James Arthur Case II, brother Lawrence Case, brother-in-law William Baldwin, and sisters-in-law Virginia Case and Mary Campbell. The family would like to thank the nurses, CNAs and entire staff at The Penn Yan Manor Nursing Home for the loving care shown to Jim during his stay. There will be no prior calling hours or funeral service held at this time. A private memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
