Obituary of Elda D. Slater

Elda D. "Oddie" Tones Slater, age 87, of Farmington, NY formerly of Penn Yan passed away on Saturday, March 27th, 2021 in the comfort of her home at Farmington Gardens. Elda was born in Dresden, NY on July 7th, 1933, the daughter of the late Albert and Mildred (Russell) Tones. Elda has been a life time resident of Penn Yan until October of 2019. She Lived with her husband Don and four children in Second Milo for 40 years until her and Don resided at their retirement home built by Don on Pine Lake, Guyanoga, Friend. Elda worked until she reached 70 years old. She was the counter girl at K&L Cleaners for many years, the Penn Yan Express and had worked for many residence in the area as a house keeper. Elda is survived by her children, Bonnie (John) Todd, Kathy (Dean) Pearce, Roger (Carla Simonton) Slater, and Connie Slater. Elda had eight Grandchildren, Susan Alexander, Joan Drew, John Todd Jr., Roger Todd, Theresa Vitale, Ryan and Devin Slater. Sixteen Great Grandchildren; and One Great Great Grandson. In Addition to her parents, Elda was predeceased by her husband of 65 years Donald Slater; granddaughter, Marsha Ellis; two sisters, Jenny VanKurin and Barbara Peterson; two brothers, Burton and Howard Tones. Friends and family may call from 11:30am to 1:30pm on Thursday, April 1st, 2021 at the Townsend Wood & Zinger Funeral Home, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan, NY 14527, where her funeral will be held at 1:30pm. Interment will follow at Second Milo Cemetery in the Town of Milo, NY. Those in attendance are asked to follow social distancing guidelines and to wear a face covering.
