Obituary of Gordon W. Fingar
Please share a memory of Gordon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gordon W. Fingar, 88, a lifelong resident of the Bluff Point area passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 after a brief stay at Hospeace House in Naples, NY. Gordon was born November 11, 1932 in Penn Yan to Robert and Marie Scott Fingar. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who took pride in his family.
In his early adult years Gordon worked at various jobs; a union laborer, carpenter and mechanic among them. He also operated a gas station and garage before he and Shirley purchased a small grape farm and home on Bluff Point. Over time, additional land was added and the farm grew to over 100 acres of vineyards with a variety of grapes. One of the first to purchase and operate a mechanical harvester on the Bluff, he was a charter member of the New York State Wine Grape Growers Association.
A member of the National Wild Turkey Federation and the National RIfle Association, Gordon was an avid hunter and gun collector, an interest he shared with family and many of his friends. He also loved anything with wheels, including auto racing and restoration and was a member of the Model "A" Restorers Club.
Gordon is survived by his wife of nearly 67 years, Shirley Nielsen Fingar, four children, Steve (Marlene) Fingar, Lisa (Al) Sabia, Rhonda (Steve) Sherwood and Robert (Dianne) Fingar; nine grandchildren, Brent (Nitosha) Fingar, Jillian (Drew) Spencer, Matthew Hey, Nicholas Sabia, Christopher (Freyja) Ledgerwood, Kara Ledgerwood and Austin, Conner and Braden Fingar; seven great grandchildren, Teagan, Kalliope, Jaxon, Mya, Avry, Brinley and Nilsa; his sister, Joyce Sedgwick of Lakeland, FL and brother, Dorwin (Blanche) Fingar of Penn Yan, along with many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Gordon was predeceased by his parents Robert and Marie Scott Fingar, brother and sister-in-law Norman and Rachel Fingar, twin brother and sister-in-law Gerald and Joan Fingar, and brother-in-law Charles Sedgwick.
