Obituary of Sandra L. Smith

Sandra L. (Cleveland) Smith, age 52, of Dundee, NY passed away on Monday, November 1st, 2021 at Geneva General Hospital. Sandy was born in Montour Falls, NY on March 16th, 1969, the daughter of David and Shirley (Zahorian) Cleveland. She married Ross E. Smith in Dundee on October 17th, 1992. She enjoyed crafting, baking, camping, couponing, hunting, gardening, thrifting, and spending time with family especially her husband Ross, son Joshua and daughter Savanna. Sandy worked for Yates County for 32 years and was the Yates County 911 Chief Dispatcher. She was awarded the NYS Sheriff's Institute's Communications Officer of the Year Award in 2014. She was a certified General Topics Instructor recognized by NYS-DCJS and completed Peace Officers training and often helped with Jail Security Control Room Operations. She was the Treasurer for the NYS 911 Coordinators Association which presented her with their Statewide Achievement Award in 2017. She worked many years for Schuyler County Sheriff's WGI headquarters dispatching and worked part time for Watkins Glen PD and Schuyler County Sheriff's Office. Sandy was also the secretary for the Yates County Highway superintendent's Association. She was on the Barringtion Board of Assessment Review for many years. Sandy always watched over her parents, children, siblings and many nieces and nephews. She was known for making her home welcome to all and nobody ever left hungry or without a chuckle. She brought love and laughter to so many people. Her witty sarcasm and sense of humor would always keep you on your toes. Sandy is survived by her daughter, Savanna Smith and son Joshua Smith; parents, David and Shirley Cleveland; sister, Joy L.C. Perry; brothers, Carl (Mildred Smart) Cleveland and Thomas (Chris Rider) Cleveland all of Dundee; brother-in-law, Ronald Perry; like a brother, John Burritt; twelve nieces and nephews and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Sandy was predeceased by her husband of 29 years on October 15th, 2021 Ross E. Smith; her infant son, Adam Daniel; brother, Daniel Mark; and her nieces, Maranda Cleveland in 2015. Friends and family may call from 1pm to 5pm on Sunday, November 7th, 2021 at Townsend Wood & Zinger Funeral Home, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan, NY 14527. Her funeral will be held at the funeral home on Monday, November 7th, 2021 at 11am. Interment will follow at Dundee Hillside Cemetery. A gathering will be held following at the Penn Yan Assembly of God Church, 3646 State Rte 14A, Penn Yan, NY 14527 to continue celebrating her and Ross' life.
